Slum Areas in Mumbai


Slum At Mumbai:-


Mumbai is a metropolitan city which has a growing population of about 18 million. It is the commercial and financial capital of India. Mumbai is a multi-religious and multi-cultural city and contributes to the largest share of Government’s Revenue. The peoples of different culture and religion use to leave together at Mumbai.

Though Mumbai accounts for largest share of Government’s Revenue it serves the largest slum population in Maharashtra as shown in Oscar  selected film “Slum Dog Milliner”. The most famous slum area in Mumbai is ‘Dharavi’ which is also shown in many movies.

Peoples came from all around the world to see the life style of peoples living in slum area. Most of the Indian Movies shows such slum living style which attracts most of the peoples to experience such living standard and view it closely. Such feature of Mumbai attracts travellers from all over India and increases there demand for Budget Hotels In Mumbai.

Slum is a run-down area of city which is characterized by substandard housing and lack of security. Slum areas are characterized by high poverty rates, illiteracy, unemployment and urban decay. One of the best example of such slum area in Mumbai is ‘Dharavi ‘.

Dharavi:-


As shown in Oscar winning movie ‘Slum Dog Milliner’ Dharavi isa slum area in Mumbai over parts of Sion, Bandra, Kalina and Kurla. Dharavi is surrounded by:
  • Mahim and Bandra  from west
  • Mithi River from north
  • Sion from South and
  • Matunga from East
Dharavi was a largest slums in world but from the numbers of 2011 it is found that Mumbai has 4 larger slums than Dharavi. Due to poor drainage system and and location of Dharavi it becomes vulnerable to floods during wet season.

The total area covered by Dharavi is 535 acres. Migrants from Gujrat, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra  came to Dharavi and establish a leather tanning industry. Some of the basic features of Dharavi are:
  • It is depicted in many Hindi Films
  • It gives place of leaving to unemployed migrants
  • Migrants from different countries leave together
  • They celebrates all religious festivals collectively
And many more such features of Dharavi attracts many travellers to visit this place, and to see life of these peoples closely most of the travellers wish to stay in Hotels nearby Dharavi. The nearby area of Dharavi is Bandra and it offers some good hotels too, so ultimately there is great demand for Hotels In Bandra West.
